Mitchell Avocast Black Edition Reel
Mitchell, the source of the spinning reel that started modern fishing reel design innovation – the Mitchell 300 – presents the Mitchell Reel Avocet Black Edition with Line. This is a reel which sits well with either carp or coarse fishing and comes with many welcome features but has a rock-bottom price.
It’s almost entirely black, which is part of a collection of colours commonly known as ‘carpy’ that includes olive and green to contribute to low visibility of the angler on the bank. It has a lightweight black aluminium spool that has been anodised for a long life and also has a ‘free spool’ system that aids casting and trolling. The trolling technique involves trailing baited lines from a moving boat or slowly winding in a line with lures or bait from a stationary position.
A traditional multi-disc drag system is included which uses specially-greased felt. For this class of fishing reel, many anglers still swear by the action and hard-wearing nature of greased felt drag discs. A halo rotor and 2 + 1 high-performance bearings work together to produce a smooth action when retrieving line.
The Mitchell Reel Avocet Black Edition with Line spinning reel comes in two variants, which are both pre-spooled with black line: FS5500R has ample capacity for 240m of 0.3mm line that can be retrieved at a rate of 0.78m per handle turn; the larger FS6500R option can hold 320m of 0.3mm line and can be brought back in at 0.87m per handle turn.
Access to coarse and match fishing doesn’t come with much lower prices than the Mitchell Reel Avocet Black Edition with Line spinning reel. You’ll get all the assurance of a fishing tackle brand that set one of the ultimate benchmarks many decades ago and continues to work hard to remain a serious option for new and experienced anglers alike.
