Reuben George Heaton founded the business when he began producing fishing reels, and the business quickly expanded into other tackle products. Its centrepin reels were the most recognised of their kind.

The scale diameter size is 170mm and the measurement from the top hook to the hanging point is 285mm. The scales are also cosmetically pleasing using a negative look which helps with visibility in poorer light conditions.
